The Kumaon hills are known for their idyllic beauty – mountains silhouetted against the sky, streams rippling through the silence of forests, and placid lakes reflecting the changing panorama of nature. Nainital, a hundred year old hill station, is in a valley around a blue green valley. This is Naini Lake, or abode of the eye-goddess after which the town takes its name. Sail boats skim across its waters, and there are trekking trails, temples, forest groves and an aerial ropeway.. Around Nainital are other smaller resorts. The region is also called the lake district due to a string of closely located lakes. Kausani makes a pretty picture. Ramgarh is known for its apple orchards. Ranikhet is encircled by snowpeaks. In the foothills is Corbett National Park, original Kipling country, where the tiger reigns.

On Kaliganga, the average grade of the river is class III while on Saryu the average grade is class II with a few class II rapids, ideal for beginners and leisure rafters. On both stretches, the rivers and rafts flow past a kaleidoscopic landscape of terraced hills and villages, distinctive in architecture and culture.
The distinctive in architecture and culture. The operator is KMVN and the trips are completely self-contained – the rafts carry alpine tents, rations and a outdoor cook. Professional rescue kayakers accompany all river runs. KMVN has set up a wireless communication network in the working area and all rafts are equipped with wireless sets. Due to the absence of road communication, the river valley has remained virgin and provides a perfect holiday. Rafting camps are pitched at Pancheshwar, Jhulaghat and Chooka. Pancheshwar is also an angler’s paradise and an international angling competition is held here in March.
